McIntosh MR89 AM/FM Tuner

£6,800.00

While there is no doubting the popularity and permanence of paid music streaming services, there is still plenty of free music being broadcast over the air from thousands of traditional radio stations. And McIntosh has a long and distinguished history with radio and tuners. The McIntosh MR78 from the 1970s is considered by many to be one of the best – if not the best – tuners ever made. The MR89 AM/FM Tuner carries on with this tradition of tuner excellence by letting you enjoy the abundance of free music streaming over invisible airwaves.

Description

The McIntosh MT-10 marries classic McIntosh glass front panel cosmetics with serious
mechanics to create a unique, ready-to-play LP solution. With tracking force, anti-skate
and cartridge position preset at the factory the McIntosh MT-10 delivers high performance
LP playback with minimal set up.

The turntable base is comprised of a damped sandwich of stainless steel and acrylic plate;
a unique combination of dissimilar materials that provides a resonance-free foundation
for the tonearm. A massive, 12 pound, 2 ½” thick acrylic platter spins on a cushion of air,
elevated by a custom magnetic bearing.

A regulated power supply drives a super-quiet, brushless, Swiss DC motor. Unmatched
accuracy is derived from a new electronic speed control that references 1,595 strobe
markings per revolution of the platter. Speed adjustments of 331/3, 45, or 78 RPM are
made from the front panel and are registered on a blue, backlit McIntosh meter.
A custom tonearm features a rigid, dural-aluminium arm-tube gimbaled in two sapphire
(horizontal) and two ceramic (vertical) bearings for the least possible friction. A .5mV
moving coil cartridge is included, and features an ebony body with an elliptical stylus.

■ The MR89 is the latest in a line of superb McIntosh tuners including the
MR78 from the 1970s that many still think is the best tuner ever made.
■ The MR89 features exclusive McIntosh radio frequency circuitry that
is capable of receiving both strong FM signals from nearby stations –
something that can overload and cause distortion in lesser tuners – and
is also able to tune in weaker FM signals with little to no noise.
■ A multitude of advancements have been made in the MR89 to make
your radio listening more pleasurable. Sensitivity, Signal to Noise Ratio,
Harmonic Distortion, Channel Selectivity, and Stereo Separation were
thoroughly analyzed and thoughtfully updated.
■ New features have also been added including a High Blend option in the
Stereo Blending function, as well as Softmute, and Highcut.
■ 60dB output meters show the signal level that’s being delivered
from the analog outputs of each channel. Depending on the program
received, the meters are a good indication of the MR89’s excellent
stereo separation capabilities.
■ A pair of balanced and unbalanced analog outputs along with one each
of digital coax and optical outputs are included to connect the MR89 to
your home audio system.
■ Supports the FM Radio Broadcast Data System (RBDS)1, allowing the
display to show various information such as station name, music genre,
artist name, and song title (if transmitted by the station)
